Storm: It’s a curse to remember by Gurpreet Kaur Sidhu

Storm

What an exciting read! The story revolves around characters who are haunted by their past life. A secret agency which kills people, an absent father, and a psychic grandmother who sees glimpses of future; make this book an engrossing read. This the first in the Storm series. I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Love is a dangerous fuel for our soul. It can kill us, but in parallel, we all crave it.

Evan starts recollecting his past life through dreams. In his memories, he has tortured his wife and remembering this makes him sick. He strongly believes the universe is trying to convey something through the memories. His faith is vindicated when his new neighbor is Shadow, who happened to be his wife in his last life. Shadow runs away from everything that is wrong in her life, psychotic boyfriend, disappointed parents. People warn Evan that Shadow is bad news and he might end up dead but he is hell-bent on helping Shadow with her life and in the process, he ends up falling in love with her. This leads trouble to Evan’s doorstep.

I must say this book didn’t feel like a debut work. The writing is good; there is no drop in the story. The events in the book are well paced and characterizations are well written. The storyline for the next book is well established in the book. I felt Venice’s character could have been better; apart from that, I don’t think anything in particular needs improvement in the book. I loved how the author ended the previous life memory in a cliffhanger instead of the present.

I absolutely loved what the author did with the names. The name Shadow Hex is perfect for the female protagonist, because in Evan’s past what he did to his wife haunts him like a shadow. Evan is also enchanted by his neighbor like he is under spell so even Hex in the name makes sense. Places have names like Lake View, Pool View and Cherry Lake which symbolize the standard of living and personalities of people who live there. I don’t know if I am reading too much into the names but I am amused by what they could symbolize.

Readers who love chills and thrills cannot miss this book. It is a book you can complete in one sitting. It is a good read.  However, not the best and it doesn’t give you book feels.

Rating: 4/5

Happy Reading 🙂
