When heritage becomes a box instead of an inspiration, it has gone too far

Humans are trapped on a planet named Detritus and are forced to live below the planet’s surface due to Krell invasion. No one knows who or what are Krell, except that they kill humans. The pilots of fighter space ships, starfighters are the hope for the human race. Spensa, wanted to be a pilot like her father since her childhood. In an important battle, Spensa’s father goes rogue and dies. He is branded as cowardly by everyone but Spensa doesn’t believe it. She wants to redeem her father’s reputation by being the best pilot. People in high positions do everything possible to stop her from becoming a pilot and they have very good reasons to do so. One day, Spensa finds an abandoned spaceship in the rubble and to her surprise, the ship speaks to her and has a brain of its own.

This book is a perfect blend of sci-fi and YA genres. The author adds the right amount of humor to the serious plot, which makes it such an enjoyable read. As the writing was crisp, there weren’t any boring scenes. The author’s talent in writing space battle scenes is absolutely remarkable. Every character is crafted with a unique personality. It is refreshing to read many characters getting equal importance in a book.

In one line I would say, this book is like watching a thrilling dystopian space adventure movie. I would recommend this book to all the sci-fi fans out there; readers who love A.I. like Jarvis cannot miss this book. Anyone who wants to try a sci-fi book but skeptical about picking one can pick this book to read.
